The Lord of the Rings

Book Review
By: James Prater

The book that I read was the Lord of the Rings made by J.R.R Tolken and in my opinion it was a very good book. This book is about a Hobbit named Frodo Bagins and he has a job to do in the book and it is to destroy the evil ring that was handed to Frodo from a wizard named Gandalf. While he is on this adventure he meets up with other fellows named Gimly he is a dwarfe, Legales and he is a elf and a human named Arogon and he is a King. He also travels with his Hobbit friends and most of the time in the book it is talking about how Frodo and Sam Frodos friend are trying to get to the Volcano were the ring was made. That is the only place it can be destroyed because the ring is indestructible. While Frodo is trying to get to the Valcano ther are these Riders named Black Riders and they want the ring so they try to kill Frodo and anyone who stands in there way of the ring.
{Spoiler}
The thing I liked the most about this book was the end when Gandalf was fighting a creature named Balrog and Balrog is this huge demon like creature that has a whip. And when they were Fighting Gandalf Yells out “You shall not pass” and smashes his staff on the ground which lead to the ground breaking. Balrog fell in and when he was falling he used his whip and wrapped it around Gandalfs leg and brought him down with him. Now everyone thinks Gandalf is dead and they are very sad about this.
I recommend this book to people who like books that take place a long time ago and who ever likes medieval stuff like swords and bows and creatures like Orcs and Balrog. The age should be 13 and above because there are some parts that are gross and not appropriate for children. I rate this book a 4/4 stars because I liked the book a lot and can't wait to read the next books. You should read this book because its a very awesome book and if you like these kinds of books then you will love this one. And if you like fiction books then you should like this because it has a lot of Fantasy parts like Orcs and wizards and Hobbits.

Child of the Jungle

Mike deprofio
Block 3

The book I’m reading is called Child of the Jungle it is a memoir. The author is Sabine Kuegler. This book takes place in a jungle (danau bira) in Germany. The main characters are Sabine, Judith and Christian. This book takes place in the 1980’s Christian, Sabine and Judith are all siblings. Every chapter is a new event that happens in their life. Sabine is the main character and is brave, courageous, fun and is always looking for an adventure. In one chapter Sabine and Christian go deep into the forest and pretend they are related to Tarzan and swing on vines but after a while they got caught and got punished.
I liked how these are kids who try to adapt to the tribes way of life. I dislike how some people would die and they would mourn for days or even months. My favorite part is when they go on a big journey to each different tribe to make peace with them.
I recommend this book to people who like to read adventure books. I rate this a 4 out of 5 because I liked most parts.

Travel Team
by Mike Lupica

A boy in New York is the son of a has been NBA player that was the loved underdog who cut his career short with a drunk car crash. His son aspires to be just like him but he didn't make his town's travel team because he's too small even though he's one of the best players in his town. His dad decides to coach a new team for his son so he can play.

I liked how the author knew the game of basketball really well and described them really well. I dint like how there were a lot of meaningless chapters that side tracked from the main story line. My favorite part was the game against Kirkland it was described extremely well.

I recommend this book to any 11-13 year old that like basketball I didn't like it that much, I would give it three out of four stars. I would also recommend this to anyone that knows a lot about basketball. If I were to do it again I wouldn't pick up this book because it was boring to me. I thought I was going to enjoy it more.

Deyvid de Paula

The book I read is called House Party by Eric Walters. It's about two unpopular young teenagers(Casey and Jen) in high school who doesn't have any friends and they are trying to get noticed. So Jen thought that they would get noticed by planning a party at Casey's house while her parents are gone for the weekend . Casey didn't want to but Jen persuaded her into having one. After they both decided to have the party, they called only a few people and when the party started a lot of people showed up.  they didn't wanted  to have any alcohol. So the girls just made a punch with a little of alcohol. People started to drink it and some got drunk with it. Other people started breaking stuff.  People heard sirens and the cops came into the party and  every one left but the two girls. They had to fix everything before the parents get home.

I liked how the author wrote this book because he tells us everything about in a real life and i recommend this book to every teenagers that like to party

my mother the cheerleader- victoria

The book that i'm reading is called, My Mother The Cheerleader and it is a novel by Robert Sharenow. In this novel the mother of Louise is Charlotte, who is a "cheerleader" that helps protest with society. They lived in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans with her mother in a boarding house. A guy named Morgan Miller stays there for a couple of nights, and puts an impact on both Louise and Charlotte's lives. I didn't like this book because I couldn't tell what was happening because different things would happen so fast when I was just settling down on what just happened and it didn't make a lot of sense to me. I had to reread a couple of things to understand. What I liked about this book was it was very specific and gave you every little detail about what was going on. I would recommend this book to anyone 14+ because it can be hard to understand and you would need to know events in history to fully understand this novel. People who love history and old fashioned things would love this book. This book would be rated 3 stars to me, but probably 4 or 5 stars to someone who loves these types of books. In my opinion, you should not read this book because it can be very boring and each event drags on. If you're very good at history, I recommend this book to you. I enjoyed this book a little when I understood what was going on.

Friday Night Lights review by Kyle Gagne

 Kyle Gagne

Reading Writing Workshop
Block 4 Day 1
Book Review
The book I read for this class was the book Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger. Friday Night Lights is a book that tells the story of one football team in a small city in Odessa, Texas. It talks about the city and what it was like to live there and it also tells you about the type of people that are living in the city and how close they are to each other even though there living in a city. It also talks about the Permian high school football team. It tells you the history and how the team is doing currently in the book also. The main characters in this book are running back Boobie Miles, quarterback Mike Winchell, fullback Don Bilingsley, and head coach Gary Gains. The book is based mostly around these characters.
There were a ton of things that I liked about the book and I thought that were really cool about the book also. There were also some things in the book that I did not like as much. The things that I really liked about this book are that it gives you a background on Permian High School.  It tells you what it was like to live in a small close city like Odessa. I also like how the book gives you some background on what the football team means to the school and the city and it also talks about what has happened with the football teams in the years past. This makes the book easier to understand with all the background information that it gives you at the beginning of the book. Some of the things that I did not like about the book or confused me are that the book is split into sections and then in the sections there are chapters and that can get confusing after a while. I also think that the book does not really focus on one thing. It just keeps going from one topic to another which can also get confusing. I thought it was a good book and it gave a lot of information on the football team and the school.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read sports story’s and basically get a separate story on to that. The separate story is the story about that town and how much the town loves their football team. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone who is interested in reading nonfiction sports stories. The age group I would recommend this book for are kids/ teenagers who are 13 years or older. The reason I said 13 is because there is some language used in it that parents might not want their kids reading. Also the book is very long and it talks about a lot of things and it gets little kids lost if they were trying to read this book. I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because I think that it does a great job describing things in the city and on the football team but i feel that some parts are boring and not a lot is going on. This book is probably one of the best sports books I have ever read and I think that people who like to read about football and sports in general will love this book.

A Child Called It by Emma Murphy

The memoir A Child Called "IT'"  by Dave Pelzer is a true story based on what he went through during his childhood while his mom physically and mentally abused him. Dave has two older brothers and a younger brother, but his mom only abuses him. Dave does not know why he is picked on by his mother, but because his mom treats him so horribly, he gets picked on at school because he never has new clothes and is always dirty. Everything is Dave's fault according to his mother. I enjoyed this book as a whole, I liked all the detail he used and how he went almost day by day and told us everything bad that happened to him each day. He went into detail about every punch, kick, and slap he received from "mother". I would not recommend this book to anyone under the age of 14. It is a very emotional book and very hard to read at certain points. Because of the amount of detail he used, you can picture everything happening in your head. I would give this book a 4 out or 4 stars because it was one of the best books I have ever read.  I believe you should read this book because it will make you more aware of these kinds of situations and to make you realize stuff like this really does happen. This book is very touching and i really enjoyed it. I do not usually like reading but i did like this book, and i'm sure you will to.

Kevin's IR project

Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen
Brian Robeson is the main character of this book and his parents are divorced. His dad lives in Canada and he is going to go visit him for the summer. As he is flying there, there are some unexpected circumstances. His plane crashes and he is stranded in the middle of the woods in Canada. He has to try and survive in the middle of the woods on his own.  His only tool for survival is his hatchet, it is his only weapon and his only thing to hunt with and make his shelter and a fire and weapons that he needs to survive. He faces many unexpected challenges that he has to overcome. I liked almost everything with this book. The one thing that I would change is some of the details in the middle of the book. At times it got a little boring, the author would just start talking about the same routines that he was doing each day and it got a little repetitive. and there could have been a little bit more action, but other than that it was very good. I like the way the author wrote the book, when there was action it was very good and I never knew what was going to happen next. If you like survival books then this is the book for you. Or if you like the books where you can’t tell what is going to happen next then this is the book for you. I would give this book 3 out of 4 stars because it was really good but at times it was a little boring. I would recommend this book to people ages 12 and up. Overall this was a very good book and I strongly recommend that you read it.

Rivals

Cam Greeno
1/23/13

I read the book the rivals by Tim Green. The  main character is Josh he plays baseball with his friends in cooperstown and is trying to win a championship for his team but suffers from an injury and misses an important game and his team wins it for him and is trying to come back for the big game and is facing a team that there coach is a MLB player and might be called an unfair game because of it. Josh’s best friend Benji also plays for his team and they are the stars on josh’s team.

I liked how Tim described each play by play and didn't miss a detail. He also got every detail right about Cooperstown.

I would recommend this to any age that likes baseball and intensity. I would rate this 3.5 stars out of 4

Freak The Mighty

Freak the Mighty
By: Rodman Philbrick

Eric Morel
The book is about this kid named Max.  His body was growing faster than his mind, then a kid named Freak sees him flying a toy in the hard an they become best friends.  They go on lots of adventures together.  One of the big parts of this is when Max goes to find Freak when he got kid napped from his dad.

I liked how the kids became best friends and at first they thought that each other were really weird.  But slowly they started to really enjoy each others company.  Later in the book some of the adventures that happened were 1 Max gave Freak a book to write in for the adventures they go on.  2 Freak puts max on his shoulders so max could play basketball.

I would rate this book a 3.  I just wished it explained more at the end when he max died.  This book was really good other wise because it was very interesting and it kept me occupied.  I recommend this to anyone it is a really good book.  It is also fun to learn about what they do and how friendship can grow, and mostly how you cant judge a person by how they look.

What Holly Heard
Stine, R.L.
The setting of this book was mostly inside of the school.  Holly, who is a main character at first, hears a rumor about a boy named Noah and a girl named Mia killing Mia’s mom.  The school is where Holly first heard the secret. Later in the book, the secret seemed to have murdered Holly which led Miriam (her best friend) to wonder about who killed Holly and why. As the book went on their was numerous suspects for her murder, but no one to be sure about. The only two suspects that were to be identified were Mia and Noah because holly heard the secret from them, but it was to be proven that it wasn't them. But was it truly them. This was then led to finding the mystery killer. My favorite part in the book had to be when the killer was found. It seemed weird at first but as I read on, it slowly started to make sense to me. The reason for it wasn’t great at the end but it was a really great book and I hope to read more like it. The age group this is appropriate for is the ages between (12-15). I recommended that numbers for these ages because of the violence. I rate this book a 3-4 because the ending didn’t really make sense to me. This book is recommended to anyone who likes mystery and horror. It’s one of the greatest books I read so far in my life and I’m already 14. If you wanted an interesting book that will have you wondering and shivering every page that you turn. You need to get “What Holly Heard”.

One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies.

Brianna Serio
1/16/13
Book Review

The book I read is One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies by Sonya Sones. Ruby Milliken is a teen that lost her mother in a driving incident and now lives her her Aunt Duffy. Aunt Duffy now has a boyfriend, and it is best (in her opinion) for Ruby to live with her dad the famous actor, Whip Logan, in Los Angeles. This means that Ruby needs to leave behind her best friend Lizzie and her boyfriend Ray. Also she hates her dad because he “apparently” left her at birth and wanted nothing to do with her. So when Ruby moved to Los Angeles, she loves everything Whip buys her,her room, and even her school, but hides it to him so he will feel sorry which will cause him pain and even though he says sorry  for everything and she still does not accept it. I definitely liked this book which is great because for the most part I don’t enjoy reading. This book had everything I would look for in a book. I connected with the book, it had drama, interest, and especially if it doesn't drag on sentences. My favorite part about One of those hideous books where the mother dies is how it’s set up. It is set up in poetry form. I like this because it goes by quicker so I can comprehend better without getting distracted or bored. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone that is in the teenage category because it is a book with teens in it and some drama that they would have. I think that not only teens should read this book, but also adults. I find that they could gain parenting tips on the choices that are made in this book. It teaches values to a kid and parent, and how much they would be affected if one of them was gone.

the pacific

The Pacific
Hugh Ambrose

this book takes place During World War II. The U.S. and Japanese battled at Iwo Jima. This book shows the perspective of 5 U.S. soldiers and what their experience was like during World War II. The ending was boring but the beginning through the last 50 pages was great. It is like the awesome series Band of Brothers.  I love this book I would recommend it to anybody who enjoys World War II and likes to learn it. I would rate this book 3 stars out of 4 because the ending was a bit boring. The pacific is a WONDERFUL book it has all the main battles of World War II and goes in depth its is one of the best World War II books I have ever read. it is from the makers of Band of Brothers. If you likes their shows or books you will love The Pacific series too.
It has real pictures of the war in it and it shows the characters too, which is amazing. You think you're actually there with them.

Who Are You

Who are you By Joan Lowery Nixon

The book i chose to do my report about is called Who Are You by Joan Lowery Nixon.

Who Are You is about a young teenager named Kristi Evans and shes been stocked by a man named Mr. Merson. Police officers have her whole family under investigation because Mr. Merson was found shot in his house with a whole lot of pictures of Kristi and her family. Kristi’s parents were very upset over this news and didn’t understand why there family was under investigation but they understood. Kristi wanted to go to the hospital and see what Mr. Merson looked like and if shes ever seen him before but the police said it was a bad idea and her parents were against it as well. Without anyone's permission Kristi went to the hospital where mr. Merson was being treated. She looked at him and saw.........

One thing I liked about this book was that it was never boring it was always keeping me guessing. This was really good I thought because I never wanted to put the book down and usually its the other way around. I don't really like reading books but this one was really good and if I had to I would give this book 5 stars. I recommend this book for ages twelve to fifteen because it has some difficult parts where it talks about the shooting. It also has so big words. I recommend this book to anyone who also loves a good mystery books. And to those who love to read about romance.
I think that people should read “Who Are You” just because its a great book and it really has no bad parts. I promise when you're done reading it will not be sorry. Its also not that big of a book either so for those who don’t like long books here you go. This book also has great reviews from big magazines and school journalists.
The name of the book I read is called The Final Four by Paul Volponi. This book is about a group of guys who play basketball and are all trying to eventually reach their dreams. There are five main characters: Malcom, Roko, Crispin, and M.J. Malcolm wants to get to the NBA ASAP. Roko wants to be the pride of his native country, Croatia. Crispin wants the girl of his dreams. M.J. just wants a chance. These guys just need their chance to show the world what they can do, and this chance is winning the NCAA Final Four Basketball Tournament.
What I liked about the book was that the author made it very suspenseful and making it very intriguing and interesting; it made me want to read on. What I didn’t like was the format that the book was set up in. For Non-Advanced readers it can be a little confusing but overall it was not bad. My favorite part was in the end, when the Trojans and the Spartans faced each other in the tournament.
This book is for a bit more advanced readers but if you like suspenseful books and/or books about basketball then you will love this book. I feel like this book is aimed towards teenage/young adult readers. Out of four stars I rate this book 3.5 stars. I gave it this rating because overall this book is pretty good but no book is perfect.
Overall if you like suspenseful books about basketball then this is the book for you !

Revolver, By Marcus Sedgwick

Revolver
Marcus Sedgwick
1910, Sig Anderson lived in a cabin in the Arctic Circle. He is alone in his cabin except for his father- who is now a corpse. He dies early on in the book by falling through a weak spot of ice. Sig now lives with his sister, Anna, and his step-mother, Nadya. They have gone to a local town near their cabin for help. They find a home with a creepy old man. They noticed that he had a revolver in his hand by the side of his hip. He was not afraid of shooting them. There was a man outside of his door claiming that his father ran off with his gold. Sig finally learned the truth about his father, he had a connection with that man in the `cabin.
I liked how they brought survival into the book. If it didn't have survival as the theme then the book would probably been really boring. In some parts of the book it was boring and I lost interest in it. Then later on when he realized about his father's past it got interesting again because it was both shocking to the reader and to Sig to learn about it.
I thought that book was alright. Some parts of it made me lose interest very quickly. I would give this book 2.5 out of 4 stars. I gave it this because It was interesting during half of the book but when they were just going to places then I started to lose interest very quickly. I would recommend this book to 13 year old boys because so kids are interested into survival books around that age. If you are a teenage boy and love reading survival and adventure books then you would enjoy this book.
Rumble Fish By S.E Hinton

This book is about a boy named Rusty James. He is a leader or a small gang that is dying out. His mother left him and he lives with his dad, who drinks a lot, and his older brother, Motorcycle Boy. Rusty lives in the shadow of his older brother because he is well known in the gang. I liked this book because it told about things that really happen to some teens like them getting into trouble. This book connects to me because most teens go through fights with friends like Rusty did. I sometimes get into fights with people and sometimes argue with friends like Rusty did. My favorite part of the book was when Rusty got in a fight because it had a lot of action in that scene. If you like action books you would like this one. I would recommend this book to kids 12- 17 because this book is about a kid that age so they could compare the book to themselves. I would give this book 4 stars because it is about teen life and it has a lot of action.

The Fire Within

Title: The Fire Within
Author: Chris D'Lacey

David has just moved into Elizabeth Pennykettle and Lucy(Liz’s nine year old daughter) house. Liz makes clay dragons for a living and has made one especially for David. His dragon helps him write a story for Lucy. Liz tells David “in order for your dragon to help you, you need to truly love him.” Later on in the book, David gets into a word fight with his dragon. After that, David’s dragon, Gadzooks, doesn’t feel like David loves him. Do you think that David will be able to show Gadzooks he really loves him?
I generally liked the book because it starts off like any other moving day, bringing in all the boxes into your room, and walking around the house to see where everything is.  I also like how Liz gives David hints on how to truly love his dragon and to make things right with Lucy. I don’t like how the characters have stuff on their own mind, the characters have their own lives and are dealing with their own  problems. My favorite part of the book will have to be the ending because the story that David wrote for Lucy is finished and then everything goes back to normal. The only difference is that now David has more knowledge on how to care for Gadzooks.
If you like a book about the unexpected, this book is for you. The age group that I chose for this book is 14-15 year olds. I rate this book three stars.
I think that they should read this book because you can tell that the characters have other stuff on their mind and have their own lives but, the ending is unbelievable! I don’t think anyone will seeing it coming.

Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen

Book Review #1 by Makayla Freitas
Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen
In the book Halley (16 years old) and Scarlett (16 years old) have been friends forever. Scarlett has always been there for Halley if she is going through something, Scarlett always knew what to say or do. But everything in their life changed in their junior year in high school. Unfortunately Scarlett’s boyfriend, Michael (16 years old), was killed in a motorcycle accident; Scarlett then finds out that she is carrying his baby.  Now, Scarlett really needs Halley’s help. Halley now has to be strong for Scarlett because this is a serious thing, it won’t be easy for Halley but she can’t let Scarlett downs “because a true friend is a promise you keep forever”.
There are many things I like about this book. One is that this book is a cliff-hanger. Another thing I like about this book is that it has a lot of detail because I could picture the characters in my head really well. The things I didn’t like about the book was that it only talks about Michael when he died, I kind of wanted to know him before he died.
If you like books with cliff-hangers than you will love this book. I recommend this book for 16 years old and up because it’s a hard book for little kids to read and is a chapter book with 281 pages. If I would rate this book on a scale from 1-4, I would give it a 3.5. I think people should read it because it’s such a good book, I love it myself, this book probably would be #1 on my top chart because it was just so good.

Fallout, By Ellen Hopkins

Fallout, by Ellen Hopkins, is about 3 teenagers who go through life challenges. There is one thing holding them together, their mother. As Summer, Autumn, and Hunter go through their daily lives they begin to learn more and more about each other. Even though they know about each other their lives are very different. Hunter is out of school and he works as a radio dj and lives with his girlfriend. Autumn is still in highschool and she lives with her Aunt Cora. Summer is still in school but she is a foster child. Even with their different lives they still try to find each other.
I liked this book  a lot. This is because it really teaches you not to judge people by what they look like on the outside. By telling you about each of these people’s lives you learn that everyone has a story that shapes how they act and live. I could connect this to real life because I honestly judge a  lot of people by how they look even before I know them.
I would recommend this book to people who like to read realistic fiction novels. It tells you a story about how a family comes together after a horrible tragedy. I would also tell anyone that is an older teen to a young adult to read this book. If I had to give this book a rating I would give it 4 stars because it kept my interest and made me want to read more and more.
I think you should read this book because you will not want to put it down after you read the first word.

Tempted

The book is called Tempted.  The book is by Cecily Von Ziegesar.

The book takes place at a boarding school in New York.  The school was called Waverly Academy.  Tinsley was the most popular and the prettiest girl in the school until she tried to kick Jenny Humphrey out of Waverly Academy by setting a barn near the school on fire and now nobody likes her.  She lost her friends and her hot boyfriend.  To make things worse, Jenny is getting all her attention and taking her place.  She won the best costume contest at the Halloween party. Jenny has a hot senior boyfriend, but right now all Jenny cares about is who can save her from getting expelled.
I like how the book’s different chapters are different characters and how their life in the dorm has changed after the fire.  I also like the random quotes at the beginning of each chapter.  It gives an interesting look into what the chapter will be about.  It also makes you want to keep reading and figure out what the quotes refer to and what their symbolic meaning is.

My favorite part of the book was when Jenny won the costume party.  Tinsley  had always won before and to be beat by a new girl was humiliating.  She even started to accept her award just assuming she would be the one called on stage.  This book does not remind me of a particular movie or book but it seems to be typical high school drama. One girl hates another girl, one girl loses her boyfriend over a misunderstanding, and all the girls have great “stuff” .

If you like teen books full of drama this would be a good book for you. This would be a good book if between the ages of 14 and 19 years old. I rate this about 3 and a half stars because I like reading high school stories but some parts of this book were confusing.  Think you should read this book because it is very interesting.  I did not get bored or lose interest in this book while I was reading it.  I am interested in reading others similar.

Book Review on Shiver

Book review #1 Brenda Chaves
Shiver
Maggie Stiefvater

Love at first sight happens in the book Shiver. When Grace (one of the main characters) was a little girl she was attacked by wolves that were in the woods in her backyard in Mercy Falls, Minnesota. While being attacked and almost eaten to death, one wolf stopped the others and stepped closer to her. Both of them stared into each other’s eyes. The wolf’s eyes gave her comfort, Grace doesn’t remember being brought back by her home by the wolf of getting bitten. Days, weeks, months, and years went by with Grace looking out her window to the woods and see her wolf there. The wolf would also keep an eye on Grace from the woods. A day came when they met. The wolf wasn’t just a wolf. The wolf was part human. A werewolf. The werewolf was named Sam. Sam would change into a werewolf when the temperature was cold outside and change back into a human when it was warm. But it wasn’t and easy change. It was a short but painful change. The changes became shorter when you came to the point that you could change into a human and stay a wolf forever. They became in love by the connection they have built. Sam’s story was learned by Grace and she wanted to help him. She helped him by sneaking him in her room to have a place to sleep since her parents are barely around. Grace and Sam goes through many journeys in Shiver from protecting each other from the dangers of infections, death, and life time changes.
There are many things I like about this book. I love the descriptions and detail that the author puts in the book. The detail builds up to every event and action that takes place. The author puts for each chapter a different point of view between Sam and Grace, which I love because I wanted to hear both sides of the story and actions. The connection between the two characters have stories that they tell each one another with comes to big plays in the book.  The different personalities of all the different characters in the book can have connections with readers.
My favorite part of the book is when Sam and Grace are at the library. The place where they both adore to be at. They both love books and being surrounded by them. Sam is into music and poetry and loves to read the different lyrics he find to give him inspiration to write his own. He has a favorite book that he has when he goes to the library about poetry. He bring Grace with him to the couches. Sam reads a poem to Grace and she realizes that is was meant to her. She was correct.
I recommend Shiver to anyone who like romance, action, and fantasy. Love is a big part the book and that love reflects on the action and answer that the characters faces through. Fantasy is also a big part because of magical characteristics that the werewolves have. The book best fit for the ages 13-15 year olds because of the advance vocabulary that is used in the text. I give the book Shiver 5 stars because of the emotion and story that is created reading the book.
This is a page turning book. A book that makes you wonder what will happen next. The characters create inside of you and makes you want to know more about them. A thought of life of death runs through your head. The emotion of the romance connection builds that bond between the characters. Readers who are into romance, action, and fantasy should most definitely read this book because it will make them a better creative writing and reader. Also, it will keep your imagination going.

Dear John, By: Nicholas Sparks

Dear John
By: Nicholas Sparks

This book is called Dear John By Nicholas Sparks. Dear John is a love story between John Tyree and Savannah Lynn Curtis. These two people meet each other almost by faith in this story as though they were meant to be together, It was all a not on purpose. Little did they know that, that day was really going to effect them. This book shows how they went through being with each other and how they were so deeply in love. Its not really like an other love story.
Something I really enjoyed about this book is the way that it all happened, love stories never started the way that their's did. What made me love the book is the ending I really loved it. It was very different than most love stories people read. The story isn't just great but it really keeps you interested and doesn't leave you bored at any parts which is very important because no one would want to a read a book thats boring. I did really like the book as you can tell but something that I also enjoyed is that the characters got me mad in the story and i liked that because it have me emotion while i read. I think that it would also be a fantastic book if the reader could relate to it and I bet lots of people would go through something like this. The book was just really fun and totally unpredictable which was great.
I think that this book was very worth reading, because you'll really love the plot of the story and enjoy the way that it shows almost a twist into the story that you dont really expect. I think that this book is a good read for Mostly girls because its a girly book about love and boys wouldn't really naturally go for a story like this. The reason why I think that this book would be appropriate for boys is for the reason that the story is from a males point of view so maybe they can relate to the story in some ways and they just might enjoy reading it and understand. The age group of people that id pick would be anywhere from 16 to 26. I choose this age group because all these ages are going through the same type of relationship as the couple in the book so they might enjoy it a lot more than any other ages.
I give this book a 4 out of 5.

This story was a fantastic read and its really worth your time because you'll enjoy it and it will always keep you interested i really recommend this.

Before I Fall

Shania Horton

Before I Fall

The book I am reading is Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. The main character, Sam, likes to party. She is all about herself and very obsessed with her popularity. Sam eventually dies, and has to relive her last day over and over again. My favorite scene so far is when Chris and Rob are fighting at a party that the girls go to.

I like this book because it is exciting and I do not really hate anything about this book. I recommend this book to teenagers. This book is inappropriate for kids younger than 13 because there is bad language and underage drinking scenes in the book. So far, in the book I rate it a 4 out 5 because it keeps me interested. I think other girls in high school would really like this book.

Hunger Games

Kyle Monteiro

Hunger Games
This book about a girl call Katniss and she has to fight for her life for the entertainment of others. The book called the Hunger Games it is by Suzanne collins. Katniss dad died in a explosion. Katniss also sacrifice herself for her sister not to be in the hunger games by tributing herself. Katniss had experience with a bow so she had skill to use a weapon unlike any other person in sector 12 tributes. Katniss find out Peeta loves her and she got angry and slap him. Kaniss also got betrayed from peeta join an alliance with other tributes and help them find her. My favorite part of this book is that when katniss shot an arrow at the judges when they were just ignoring her like she had no skill and then they were in shock after the arrow hit the pig. I did not like how Katniss and Peeta move to a cave and were never found. I will rate this book a 4* and I recommend this book for the age of 13 and up. There were some parts in the book that were graphic and confusing and also some parts that were some hard words and there was a really good plot. the reason why I think people should read this book is because the plot for this book is just spectacular. This book has action and weapons also death. This story also has romance and drama with a little comedy. The book does build suspense and leaves you hanging a little. This book will make you want to turn the page none stop and not stop thinking about it on what will happen next or is it true. This book will have something that anyone would like because they put a little of everything in it.

The Uglies by Scott Westerfield

Emily Tobin

The book that I read was Uglies by Scott Westerfield. The main character Tally lives in a world with separate places. One is Uglyville and the other is New Pretty Town. Tally lived in Uglyville at first but then she gets an operation into a pretty. She meets up a new friend named Shay. All of Tally's old friends became pretty. Shay isn't quite positive if she wants to enter New Pretty Town. They both have a dilemma weather to be pretty or stay ugly.
The part I liked in the book was when Tally sneaked into New Pretty Town with a mask looking like a pig so no one knew who she was. She wanted to see her old friend Peris. The part I didn't like in the book was when Tally and her friend Shay went to some forbidden place called "The Ruins" to meet Shay's friend David but he never showed up.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read fiction books. I would say 12-14 year old's would enjoy reading this. I rate this book a 3 out of 4 because there were some interesting parts and some were not really as interesting.

Monster: Walter Dean Myers

Jay Patel
Block 3
Book review
The title is of the book is Monster. The author of this book is named Walter Dean Myers. It took place in a city. It is about a shooting at the robbery that has occurred in a store. The court and the police have convinced themselves that the young boy was part of the robbery that was taking place. His name is Steve. He was 16 and his friend Bobo was selling cigarettes and got caught and snitched them both out. They called Steve “Monster” throughout the book because they thought that a young boy would never do the thing that they thought that he did.
I liked how it shows what has been happening before and then it goes back to what happened after. I didn’t like how it ended even though there so was so much proof that showed that he wasn’t involved in the shooting. The court still turned on him and made the wrong decision. I recommended this book to people who like mystery and it is based on a true story. I give this this book a 4 out of 4 because of all the violence it describes from robbery to shooting. It had all the details it needed.
This book will keeps you thinking at the end of every page. The book makes you want to keep reading. The book is good for people that love to predict what happens next. It has a lot of foreshadowing. This book is all about remembering the facts. It is a creative way to read because it is formatted like a play. It changes plots and the changes to settings in a way you will find out by the characters talking.

Monster by Walter D. Myers

Book Review
RWW

The title of this book is called Monster by Walter Dean Myers.  This book is about a murder in a drugstore in New York. The main character, Steve, is innocent but gets accused of murdering the store owner, Mr Alguinaldo Nesbitt. The gang, including James King, Osvaldo Cruz, “Bobo” Richard Evans, and Steve Harmon, are all involved in the robbery and murder.  The story is told from Steve’s point of view after he gets arrested. The rest of the story takes place in a courtroom and a jail and various other locations.
I liked that there was some mysterious aspects to the book and that there was an element of suspense in the story as well. My favorite part of the book was when Steve throws a rock at a pole and he misses and hits a tough guy and his friend runs away. My least favorite part is when he is in the death chamber and he gets prepared for the lethal injection.
I would recommend this to people who like prison stories and to people who like mysteries. I wouldn’t recommend it to an age group where little kids would read such as 9-12 and I would recommend it to kids in the ages of 14 to 16. I would give it a 4 star rating because theres a good storyline but it gets a little confusing sometimes but overall its a good mystery book.

Tuesdays with Morrie

The book i read was "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom. This book was about how a man from high school getting attached to his professor. When Mitch has to do a report he goes to Morrie to interview him.Despite the age difference they had a great connection that they shared everything with each other. Morrie had a great influence on Mitch's life. He was always giving positive remarks and he always said theres never goodbye's. Morrie teaches Mitch a lot of life lessons and they always talked about their problems. Every Tuesday Mitch went to see him. He would ask him questions and Morrie would always answer back with a good/positive response. Throughout reading this book, I really liked the way the author made it seem like i was actually there. I also liked the way the author described the conflict and all the events that happened.

Things that I really liked was that it really inspired me and I felt like i could connect to it. My favorite part was when i read about Morrie talking about his death. This was my favorite scene because Morrie and Mitch talk about forgiveness and death. Forgiveness is a way Morrie wants his life to end. Morrie says "Don't let go too soon, but not too long". They talk about Morrie's old friend named Norman. Norman built a sculpture for him in a 3-d way, then died from cancer. This was hard on Morrie because he had gotten into a fight with him before and never talked to him ever again. He decided to forgive when he had already died.

This would be a good book for people that like life lessons and relationships between close friends. I would recommend this for kids 12 and up like teenagers. Teenagers would be a good age range because this book is mostly about how life is like and the start of peoples careers and struggles they will face when they get older. On the scale from 1-4, I would give "Tuesdays with Morrie" a three. I thought the book was boring at the beginning because i didn't know much about it but once i got into the second chapter I got really interested and started to get what they whole book was about. The most interesting part i got to was towards the middle when you find out more about the concept of the book and it starts to sum up the story. Overall, Tuesdays with Morrie was an excellent book and i f i was able to read it again for a book project i would pick this book. I would read it again because i thought it was interesting and it teaches alot of new things that could happen in your life. I thought this book was very inspiring and really detailed.

A Child called "IT"

Francheska Chour

Reading writing workshop

Book Review #1
The book A Child called “it” by Dave Pelzer is a tragic story about a boy who gets physically abused by his mother. The little boys name is Dave; he has three other brothers and lives with both his parents. In the beginning, Dave’s mom used to love him but it quickly started to change. She called him a bad boy and punished him harshly. She starved him, made him her own personal maid, locked him in the bathroom with the smell of Clorox and other deadly chemicals, she even made him eat poop, vomit, and left over crumbs from breakfast or dinner as his meal. His brothers and father didn’t do anything, at first they watched sadly but after some time they didn’t even show any affection towards him. I liked reading this book because it talked about every incident briefly. My favorite part was when they went to a family trip and Dave’s mom was forcing him to eat his brother’s poop. I liked it because he was really descriptive and showed a lot of emotion in the chapter. My least favorite part was when she made him throw up and eat it again and his father just watched without doing anything. I recommend this book for anyone that likes memoirs because it keeps you awake and won’t let you put the book down. I believe this book should be for teens ranging from 14-17 years old because it has a lot of curses and its very violent. I would rate this book a four out of four stars because it was really good and it actually teaches you a lot about abuse and about what others around you might be going through without you thinking about it and not judging people because you never know what happens when they are home.

child called IT

Mrs. Hardy
The book I read was  A child called IT  by David Pelzer. This book is a true story about a little boy named David who is physically and verbally abused by his mother. At first things seem perfect. They talked all the time, they went to the park, and he cherished all the good things in life. All of a sudden things changed. She became evil; she began drinking and fighting with David. David and his father were really close. But after his mom changed his father moved out. He was sick of her and could not take it anymore. David was devastated. His father was the only good thing in his life after his mother’s change. The abuse began and David just tried to survive this awful life. One awful thing that happens to him is when his mother tried making David lay down on a burning stove.
I liked many things about this book, what I liked the most was how specific the author was when he described what abusive things his mother was doing to him. I recommend this book for anyone who likes suspense and cliff hangers. This book can at times make you get very emotional and mad. Overall this is a very good book and i give it four out of four stars. It is very detailed and it has a way at getting at your emotions. I recommend this book to everyone.

The First Part Last

The First Part Last...

The story takes place in New York. The main characters name is Bobby is dating a girl named nia at the time Bobby loved Nia very much. When Bobby turned 16 his whole life changed that day Bobby was going to become a father.

I liked how it shows how hard it is to be 16 and having a child to take care of and protect. My favorite part of the story is *spoiler alert do not keep reading if you are going or reading the book right now* Bobby left his whole family to go live with his brother and his wife in heaven ohio.

I recommend this book who likes real life situations such as tuff living situations, having a baby to take care of etc. I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars i think it could’ve been a happier ending.

In my opinion I think this book was fantastic and a really awesome book I think more young teenagers should read this book!
